Myanmar, once known as Burma, is a beautiful country in Southeast Asia with a rich and complex history. It is the largest country on the mainland of this region and shares borders with Bangladesh, India, China, Laos, and Thailand.
Visitors often call it "The Golden Land" because golden pagodas can be seen everywhere. But that's just the beginning. There is so much more to explore and learn about here.
Myanmar has a deep culture and historical background that goes back over 2000 years. It offers a unique mix of ancient traditions, diverse landscapes, and local ways of life that have been passed down through generations. Whether you're visiting for the first time or coming back again, you"ll find something new to discover.
The name "Myanmar" means strong and active. Today the country is home to many different ethnic groups, each with their own languages and customs. These include the Kachin, Kayah, Kayin, Chin, Bamar, Mon, Rakhine and Shan, among others. They come from three main backgrounds: the Mon-Khmer, Tibeto-Burman, and Thai-Shan.
For many years, Myanmar was cut off from the rest of the world. Because of this, its culture, nature, and ancient temples are still well-preserved in many areas. More than 100 ethnic groups still follow their traditional ways of life. This is one of Myanmar's most distinctive features.
